About TPR
The Pop Reporter covers television, film, music and anime — the releases, the industry decisions behind them, and the reviews that tell you whether something is worth your evening. We publish daily across four beats, and everything we run is written to be read in a few minutes and be useful by the end of it.
What we cover
- Television — series news, episode and finale coverage, and full season reviews.
- Film — release news, casting and production stories, and reviews of new features.
- Music — album releases, artist news and record reviews.
- Anime — seasonal line-ups, adaptation announcements, and series coverage.
Who writes it
Three bylines carry the site, each on their own beat:
- D. Roberts — film and television, including the site’s reviews for both.
- M. Yogesh — the news desk, and responsible for editorial standards across the site.
- P. Angus — anime and music coverage and reviews.
How we source a story
News articles begin with published reporting from established trade and entertainment outlets. We read the available coverage on a story, work from what multiple outlets agree on, and link out to the reporting we relied on so you can read the original for yourself. Where a detail appears in only one place, we say so rather than presenting it as settled.
We do not publish rumours as fact, and we do not run stories sourced solely from unattributed social media posts.
How our reviews are scored
Every review on The Pop Reporter is scored on four aspects rather than a single gut-feel number, and the aspects change with the medium so the score means something specific:
- Television — Story, Performances, Pacing, Payoff
- Film — Story, Direction, Performances, Visuals
- Music — Songwriting, Production, Vocals, Cohesion
Each aspect is scored out of 10 and the final rating is their average, shown in the review box at the top of every review alongside a short verdict. A 7 that is strong on performances but weak on pacing tells you more than a 7 on its own, which is the point.
Corrections
We correct errors. If you find something wrong — a factual mistake, a misattributed quote, a broken credit — email editor@thepopreporter.com and tell us what and where. Corrections to published articles are made in place, and significant ones are noted on the article.
