Editorial Policy

This page sets out how The Pop Reporter reports, reviews and corrects its coverage. It applies to every article on the site.

Sourcing

News articles are built from published reporting by established trade and entertainment outlets. We work from what multiple independent outlets agree on, and we link out to the reporting we relied on so readers can check the original. Where a claim appears in only one outlet, we attribute it to that outlet rather than presenting it as established fact.

We do not publish rumours as fact, and we do not build stories solely from unattributed social media posts. Where a story is developing and details may change, we say so in the article.

Reviews

Reviews are opinion. They are scored across four aspects rather than a single overall impression, and the aspects change with the medium:

  • Television — Story, Performances, Pacing, Payoff
  • Film — Story, Direction, Performances, Visuals
  • Music — Songwriting, Production, Vocals, Cohesion

Each aspect is scored out of 10 and the published rating is their average, displayed with a short verdict at the top of the review. Splitting the score this way lets a reader see why something scored as it did rather than taking a single number on trust.

Independence

We do not accept payment in exchange for a review, a score, or favourable coverage. Advertising and sponsorship have no influence on what we cover or how we rate it, and no advertiser sees an article before publication. If a piece is ever sponsored or produced in partnership, it will be labelled as such at the top of the article.

Corrections

We correct errors. Factual mistakes are fixed in place, and a correction note is added to the article where the change is material to its meaning. To report an error, email editor@thepopreporter.com with the article link and what is wrong; we aim to respond within two business days.

Use of automation

We use software tools in our production process — for research, drafting assistance, formatting and internal linking. Editorial responsibility for what is published rests with The Pop Reporter, and every article carries a named byline accountable for it.
