D23 2026 Scales Up, But the Real Test Comes in August
D23 2026 expands to Anaheim August 14–16 with a larger show floor and new video game showcase, but success depends on attendance and sellout rates.
D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is returning to Anaheim August 14–16 with the largest show floor in its history, more than 50 panels, and a new Disney Entertainment Showcase that formally adds video games to the lineup.
But for all the expansion — a bigger venue, higher ticket prices, and a broader programming slate — the event’s success will be measured not by its ambitions but by what happens when fans actually show up.
The numbers that matter most — attendance, sellout rates, and the volume of major announcements — will not be known until after the doors close.
Honda Center capacity vs. show floor size
The evening showcases at the Honda Center will hold approximately 12,000 fans per event, roughly double the capacity of the former Hall D23.
That is a deliberate bet that demand for the marquee presentations has outgrown the previous space. But bigger capacity only matters if it fills.
Historical attendance at the biennial event has fluctuated: an estimated 100,000 in 2017 and 140,000 in 2022.
If the Honda Center sessions do not sell out, or if overall attendance fails to exceed the 2022 figure, the expansion will look like overreach rather than a response to genuine demand.
Ticket pricing hierarchy
Ticket prices range from $49 for an Afternoon Only Fan Pass to $2,599 for the Ultimate Preferred Fan Pass.
The evening shows at the Honda Center are reserved exclusively for Ultimate Fan Pass and Ultimate Preferred Fan Pass holders.
That pricing structure creates a two-tier event: the daytime convention floor is relatively affordable, but the headline presentations — the ones that generate the most media buzz — require a significant financial commitment.
The gap between the cheapest and most expensive passes is more than $2,500, signaling that Disney is testing how much its most devoted fans will pay for premium access.
How many of those top-tier passes sell will be an early indicator of whether the strategy works.

Attendance growth and risk
D23 Expo 2022 drew an estimated 140,000 attendees, up from 100,000 in 2017.
That 40% increase came after a pandemic hiatus and was fueled by pent-up demand and a wave of park and film announcements.
The 2024 edition — which was a smaller-scale event — still produced nearly 50 announcements across parks, cruise, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars during the Disney Experiences Showcase hosted by Josh D’Amaro.
The 2026 event is larger in scope, with new programming such as Mundo Pixar, ESPN and the Road to the Super Bowl, and Walt Disney Archives: Uncrated, plus a documentary premiere and 13 Disney Legends honorees.
But the 2022 attendance figure is now four years old, and consumer behavior around fan conventions may have shifted.
If the 2026 total falls short of 140,000, it will raise questions about whether the expanded format is attracting new visitors or simply cannibalizing the existing base.
Disney Entertainment Showcase expansion
The new Disney Entertainment Showcase, scheduled for Friday, August 14 at 7:00 PM Pacific, will feature surprise celebrity appearances, exclusive first looks at upcoming films and series, musical performances, and — for the first time — video games as a featured part of the presentation alongside film, television, and Broadway-style productions.
That expansion broadens the event’s appeal but also raises expectations.
D23 2024’s Disney Experiences Showcase delivered nearly 50 announcements, setting a high bar for volume and impact.
If the 2026 showcase produces fewer major reveals or fails to generate the same social-media momentum, the addition of video games may feel like padding rather than a meaningful upgrade.
