James Bond 26: Next 007 to Be Announced by End of 2026, Says Pascal
The next James Bond actor will be announced by the end of 2026, producer Amy Pascal confirms.
Producer Amy Pascal has confirmed that the next James Bond actor will be announced by the end of 2026. In an interview with Deadline published August 3, following the debut of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Pascal said: “I would say the end of the year is a good bet.”
The confirmation comes as the franchise’s new creative leadership — Pascal and David Heyman — accelerates a search that has been quietly underway for months.
Auditions for the next 007 are reportedly taking place this month, with Nina Gold leading the casting search.
Villeneuve to Direct Bond 26
Denis Villeneuve is confirmed to direct Bond 26, with casting set to begin in earnest after he completes Dune: Part Three. The director’s involvement signals a significant creative shift for the franchise.
The film is scheduled for release at the end of 2026. Villeneuve’s pairing with a series traditionally favoring grounded espionage style marks a notable change.
Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, is writing the script. During a recent appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Today program, Knight said: “I can’t really talk about what I’m doing with Bond but I’m enjoying every single second of it. It’s fantastic. I’m loving it.”
Methodical Casting Approach
Pascal emphasized that the new team is taking its time despite the looming deadline. “We are being really, really methodical,” she told Deadline.
“Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different.”
The measured approach reflects the stakes. Daniel Craig made his final appearance as Bond in 2021’s No Time to Die, closing out a 15-year run that redefined the character for a modern era.
Whoever follows him will inherit a franchise that has been in transition since Amazon MGM Studios formally took creative control.

Amazon MGM announced in June that the casting process had officially begun. The studio stated: “The search for the next James Bond is underway.
While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.”
Speculation about potential candidates has intensified since Craig’s departure. Names such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Jack Lowden, Louis Partridge, and Tom Francis have been circulating.
No official shortlist has been confirmed. The transition from Broccoli and Wilson — who shepherded the series since the Pierce Brosnan era — to Pascal and Heyman marks a generational shift in franchise management.
The new producers were officially hired in March 2025. Their first major decision, the Villeneuve hire, suggests a willingness to take risks that previous custodians may have avoided.
With an end-of-year announcement now all but confirmed, the window for speculation is closing. What remains unclear is whether the next Bond will be a familiar face, a relative newcomer, or a left-field choice.
Pascal’s emphasis on finding something “stirring and exciting and different” suggests the new team is looking beyond the obvious shortlist.
For fans, the wait is nearly over. The next chapter of the 007 franchise is taking shape, and by the end of 2026, the face of its future will finally be known.
