Actor Patrick Muldoon, best known for his iconic roles on Days of Our Lives and in the sci-fi film Starship Troopers, has died at age 57 from a sudden heart attack. His sister Shana Muldoon-Zappa revealed the tragic final moments at his Beverly Hills home, describing the family’s shock at losing a seemingly healthy, active man.

The Sudden Tragedy

Muldoon’s partner, Miriam Rothbart, discovered him unconscious in the bathroom after he had been in the shower longer than usual. She just thought it seemed [like he’d been in there] a little long – it was probably 10 minutes. So she went in and he was on the floor not breathing. She called 911 and she was trying to bring him back, then the paramedics got there.

My parents were at our house because we’re all in LA and we all ran over there. But by the time we got there, he was gone, Shana told The Mail. The family’s rush to the scene resulted in additional injury, with their father fracturing his shoulder in the chaotic response.

My poor dad ran in the house to see him and fell and fractured his shoulder. I mean, it’s just so crazy, she added. Reports indicate the fatal cardiac event occurred on April 19, 2026, shocking a family and entertainment industry that knew him as fit and vibrant.

Patrick Muldoon’s Career Legacy

Muldoon first gained prominence playing Austin Reed on the soap opera Days of Our Lives from 1992 to 1995, later returning to the role in 2011-2012. His transition to prime-time television came with the role of Richard Hart on Melrose Place during the 1995-1996 season.

He achieved widespread recognition for his role as Zander Barcalow in the 1997 sci-fi film Starship Troopers, where he starred alongside Denise Richards. The two remained close friends after their relationship ended, recently reuniting for the upcoming film Dirty Hands.
