Verity Poster Drops, Trailer Imminent Ahead of October Release

A new poster for the psychological thriller "Verity," based on Colleen Hoover's novel, has been released with the trailer set to debut tomorrow.

A new poster has dropped for “Verity,” the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, with the official trailer set to arrive tomorrow. The psychological thriller premieres in U.S. theaters on October 2, 2026, distributed by Amazon MGM Studios in the United States and Canada and Sony Pictures Releasing internationally.

Cast and Release Shift

Dakota Johnson stars as Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is hired to ghostwrite the remaining novels in a bestselling series after the author, Verity Crawford, is incapacitated by an accident.

Anne Hathaway plays Verity, and Josh Hartnett plays Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford, who recruits Lowen to finish the books. Ismael Cruz Córdova, Brady Wagner, and Michael Abbott Jr. round out the cast.

Amazon MGM Studios moved the film’s release from May 15, 2026 to October 2, shifting the title from a spring slot into the autumn thriller corridor. The film carries a reported $40 million budget.

Plot and Teaser Footage

Lowen moves into the Crawford home to work, where she discovers an unfinished autobiographical manuscript attributed to Verity.

The manuscript contains disturbing accounts of the family and of Jeremy. As Lowen keeps reading and grows closer to Jeremy, the situation turns.

Hathaway’s voiceover in the teaser warns: “even with continuous warning, you are going to continue to ingest my words — but know one thing: there is no light where we are going.”

The teaser ends on Lowen realizing the man she is kissing may not be who she thinks.

Behind the Camera

Michael Showalter directs from a screenplay by Nick Antosca. Showalter reunites with Hathaway after 2024’s “The Idea of You.”

Antosca created “Channel Zero” and wrote “The Act.” Jim Frohna is on cinematography, Jay Cassidy is editing, and Volker Bertelmann, who won an Oscar for “All Quiet on the Western Front,” is composing.

Colleen Hoover produces alongside Hathaway, Showalter, Antosca, Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher, and Jordana Mollick.
