Apple TV Renews ‘Widow’s Bay’ for Season 2, Dippold Inks Deal
Apple TV has renewed the horror-comedy series Widow’s Bay for a second season, just ahead of its Season 1 finale on June 17, 2026. Creator and showrunner Katie Dippold has also signed a new multi-year overall deal with the streamer, cementing her continued partnership with Apple TV.
Renewal and New Deal
The series follows Mayor Tom Loftis, played by Emmy winner Matthew Rhys, as he attempts to revive his struggling island community that locals believe is cursed. His efforts succeed in drawing tourists, but the island’s old curses begin to manifest.
The cast also includes Kate O’Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, K Callan, and Jeff Hiller.
Executive produced and directed by Emmy winner Hiro Murai (known for Atlanta and The Bear), the show has earned widespread acclaim, holding a 97% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
“From the moment audiences arrived in Widow’s Bay, they’ve been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laughs, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew, and the entire team have created. It’s become one of those shows everyone’s talking about, and we’re thrilled to see audiences continue to embrace it. We can’t wait to return for another season.”
Matt Cherniss, Apple TV’s head of programming, hailed the series’ impact in a statement.
Season 2 Teased
Dippold offered a teasing glimpse into the sophomore season’s tone during the renewal announcement. “Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there’s nothing to worry about,” she told Deadline, hinting at a possible tonal shift from the first season’s blend of mystery and comedy.
In Season 1, Mayor Loftis’s tourism campaign inadvertently unleashed supernatural forces, creating a tense atmosphere where curses and laughs coexisted. Dippold’s comment suggests that Season 2 may explore the aftermath, with the island basking in a deceptive calm — or perhaps facing new, even more unsettling developments.
The show’s genre-bending approach has been a key draw. Created by Dippold (known for The Heat and Ghostbusters: Afterlife) and directed by Murai, Widow’s Bay has been praised for its sharp writing, strong performances, and visual style.
The renewal comes as Season 1 builds toward its finale, with audiences eager to see how the current storylines resolve before the new chapter begins. Official casting for Season 2, along with a premiere date, has not yet been announced.
Given the show’s critical success and Dippold’s new overall deal, Apple TV appears committed to the series as a flagship original. Fans can expect more details in the coming months as production gears up.
