Madhouse’s ‘ghost – end of night’ Reveals Teaser, February 2027 Release Date
Madhouse has officially unveiled the full title, first key visual, and a super teaser trailer for its original anime film ghost – end of night (Japanese title: ghost/yoru no hate), with a theatrical release in Japan set for February 11, 2027.
Written and directed by Shingo Natsume — his first original feature film — the project also received a manga adaptation announcement. Artist himiko will launch the manga in Kadokawa’s Young Ace magazine on August 4, preceded by a preview in the magazine’s August issue shipping July 4.
Music and Creative Team
The teaser previews the insert song “Sugar” by alternative rock band Hitsujibungaku, who also perform the film’s theme song. Composer Ohzora Kimishima is scoring the film, marking his first film score since his professional debut.
Original character designs come from manga creator Natsume Ono (ACCA 13, House of Five Leaves), with Norifumi Kugai adapting the designs for animation. Bandai Namco Filmworks is distributing the film.
Bandai Namco Filmworks provided the official description of the film:
“I want to know what is <real>. Set in the near future where labor is no longer necessary, this is the story of Neekei, a girl who continues seeking the ‘real’ while resisting the order of a content society.”
The film’s narrative centers on a near-future world where work has become obsolete, and the protagonist Neekei pushes back against a society built entirely on passive content consumption.
Natsume’s Vision and Manga Adaptation
Director and screenwriter Shingo Natsume, known for his work on One Punch Man and Sonny Boy, aims to deliver a story that balances fiction with grounded contemporary relevance.
A work that could be called fictional but is in tune with our current time and seeks realism.
Natsume said.
Scriptwriter Tomohiro Suzuki is credited as a creator alongside Natsume, Bandai Namco Filmworks, and Madhouse. The project was first pitched at the MIFA 2025 event, held in conjunction with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The upcoming manga adaptation by artist himiko will provide an alternate entry point into the world of ghost – end of night, with serialization beginning in Young Ace on August 4.
A preview chapter is set for the magazine’s August issue, which ships on July 4.
With a creative team including acclaimed anime director Shingo Natsume, character designer Natsume Ono, and music from Hitsujibungaku and Ohzora Kimishima, ghost – end of night is shaping up as one of the most anticipated original anime films of early 2027.
