Quentin Tarantino, Kylie Minogue Team for Jamie Adams Film in Wales

Quentin Tarantino and Kylie Minogue are co-starring in a new untitled feature from Welsh director Jamie Adams, currently shooting in the seaside town of Porthcawl, Wales.

The project, backed by New York-based Visor Entertainment, reunites Tarantino with Adams following their collaboration on Only What We Carry, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival earlier this month.

Filming has been underway at multiple Porthcawl locations.

The local outlet Nation.Cymru reported that scenes were shot at Newton Church for a funeral sequence and at the Saltwater Inn for a wake.

The Porthcawl Male Choir participated as extras, with choir member Chris Evans posting in a community Facebook group: “The PMC were asked to provide extras for the day and assist with the singing in the church and at the wake in the Saltwater Inn. It was an absolutely fantastic day.”

The cast also includes a number of Welsh actors: Karen Paullada, Julian Lewis Jones, Craig Russell, Siwan Morris, and William Thomas.

Paullada wrote on Instagram that she enjoyed “filming with @juleslewisjones @craigrussell1977 @morrissiwan and other legends. All steered and put together by the one and only” Adams.

Tarantino’s Improvisational Pitch

Adams, known for his Nouvelle Vague-inspired, improvisational filmmaking style, cold-pitched Tarantino for a role in their first collaboration.

I sent him the story outline and a letter. I was just very honest about believing in him as an actor. Improvisation, the way I use it, is about being present and reacting organically. He’s one of the greatest conversational storytellers. I thought that would be incredible in character. I didn’t think I’d hear back.

But two weeks later, on a Sunday, his agent emailed saying Quentin was intrigued and wanted a Zoom.

After a conversation that ranged from movies to the Welsh sitcom Gavin & Stacey, Adams recalled telling Tarantino that discussing the character was “the next conversation” — a moment the director later said sold him on being directed.

“Two days later, he was on board,” Adams said.

Tarantino played a wealthy benefactor in Only What We Carry, a romantic drama shot in six days in Deauville, France, that also starred Simon Pegg and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

That film is Adams’ second feature with the “Pulp Fiction” auteur.

Still a Mystery

The title and plot of the new project are still under wraps.

Visor Entertainment is producing, with Jordan Levine, Sabine Stener, and Randy Kleinman serving as producers.

Levine established Visor after his previous company, Yale Entertainment, was discontinued following financial difficulties.

Representatives for Tarantino and Adams did not respond to requests for further comment by press time.

With the unlikely pairing of a Hollywood icon and a global pop star filming in a quiet Welsh seaside town, Adams’ improvisational method continues to produce some of the more unexpected casting coups in independent cinema.
